Can I be honest with you? I’m a perfectionist, but also an extrovert, and the two sometimes seem to clash when I want to host a gathering at my place. Since I’d rather be with friends, neighbors, and family than alone, I invite them over anyway, and say “Welcome to my crazy” as my new puppy is still teething and not fully house-trained yet.

Being together is the desired outcome, so something has got to give. My ideals of the perfect Pinterest evening are what I say goodbye to, in favor of making every gathering count. No one really remembers what I served anyway. They do, however, remember how they feel when they come over. The rawness of my life at times is just what is needed for me to be an authentic Christ follower to them. Otherwise, how else could they ever get there?

My prayer is that they would feel comfortable, safe, and at home. What if every guest felt special, heard, and valued?

As we transition into the winter months and end up spending time indoors, how can you make your home more welcoming? A place where women want to linger a bit more and share their stories.

I once read a quote that said: “It’s your life. Take note.”

So I say, come on over, and “Welcome to my crazy.”

There may not be a home-cooked meal, but I can light a candle and have a warm heart to those who need to be heard. One of my neighbors recently told me that she “feels invisible.” I was struck with her statement, and I want to be someone who sees her by listening to her heart that needs mending. I know Jesus sees her.

So as we start a new year, I know you will have appointments to make, places to go, and commitments to keep. Your plans guide your future, so take note.

What if 2017, is the year that you say “Welcome to my crazy,” so that women may see you as you really are? More importantly, know that the Person of Christ is the One who sees them and wants to mend their hearts just like He mended yours.

Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each another, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay.
