“The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.”

– Psalm 19:8, NLT

We are all ordinary people, with ordinary lives, living in ordinary places, with ordinary to-do lists … BUT our Father has EXTRAORDINARY work for us to do through His Spirit.

First, we must obey what He calls us to do today, tomorrow, and the next day – at home, in front of the computer, on the phone: some days just doing ordinary but necessary tasks, some days getting to do something extraordinary, but most days just ordinary. Yet if we continue to do what the Lord asks of us day in and day out, He will create a masterpiece far beyond what we can imagine today, fashioning something extraordinary from our ordinary lives, because when we obey and continue to seek His will through prayer and patience, He can use us to do far beyond what is humanly possible.

Think of the very first Christmas: the shepherds would have missed the extraordinary presence of the King of Kings had they not heeded the angel’s message! What might we miss if we make excuses, complain or feel inconvenienced by our to-do lists today, tomorrow, or next month? As we begin this new year, may we commit our ordinary lives to finding joy in the extraordinary work of Jesus.

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”

– Psalm 16:11, NLT
