As the holidays approach what kind of feelings do you have?  Do you enjoy the season filled with traditions and celebrating? A time to gather, give thanks, feast and be grateful, or do you have mixed feelings?

When I think about this season, I look forward to being with family, friends, and my church, but I am also reminded of those who are broken and/or separated from loved ones.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had the opportunity to reach out with several others in my community and come alongside a man from the inner city who is trying to rise out of poverty, addiction and stigma.  This man has lost family members this year too, and he has certainly felt that loss.

Celebrating holidays is important to our brother and us in Christ.  As we gather together, we do so much more than eat special foods…we mark the occasion by talking about how far we have come together, and count the ways we have seen God at work.   We celebrate our friendship through sharing and laughing.  We embrace our individuality and enjoy being appreciated just for who we are.  As we gather, such moments remind us that we are all loved, and have the amazing ability to love others in unity and celebrate life.

Food for Thought:

  • Let others know how you see God at work in their lives.
  • Appreciate and celebrate someone just for being who they are.
  • Consider inviting others to your home for a gathering during the holiday season. Contact me if you are interested in hosting a Christmas Home Gathering.  [email protected]
  • Pray about ways you can gather around someone God has placed in your life. Check out: www.stonecroft.org/holiday-prays

God designed us to live in relationships where we encourage and pray for one another, and remember to ask for His wisdom.

“But the wisdom from above is first of all pure.  It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others.  It is full of mercy and good deeds.  It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.  And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.”
