Stonecroft participated in a “Hooray for Heroes” event in May in Radcliffe, Kentucky (near Ft. Knox post). Many volunteers in the city of Radcliffe hold the “Heroes” festival to celebrate those who serve in the military and their families. Stonecroft set up a booth at the event to hand out water bottles and gifts for the kids. We were able to connect with many women and partner with Stonecroft volunteers in Radcliffe/Elizabethtown to plan a follow-up event called “Sundaes and Sandals” on July 12 at a local community center.

At Sundaes and Sandals, women gathered to fellowship, eat great ice cream, participate in a sassy sandal competition, connect with Stonecroft volunteers, and sign up for a new Conversations group starting in the fall.

I met Debbie Harrell and Sarah LeBlanc at the “Hooray for Heroes” event, in Radcliff, Kentucky this Spring. Their combined personalities were kind and welcoming, on a very gloomy and rainy day. I exchanged information, and was later invited to the Sundaes and Sandals event scheduled for July 12th.

My husband had just retired from the Army, one day before the Sundaes and Sandals event. I was nervous and excited to start a new chapter in life, but I was still wondering where to begin.

On July 12th, I walked into a room of strangers, and walked out of the room with new Christian friends. I felt very comfortable and accepted by the ladies in attendance. It was fun visiting with everyone and I really enjoyed the gathering.

The event created a fun time of connecting and relationship-building for all the women. We discussed great ideas for new outreaches in the area and are excited about what God is doing – and will continue to do – in the lives of women who live in Radcliffe, Elizabethtown, and on post at Fort Knox.
