“When [Jesus] saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.  Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

– Matthew 9:36-38, ESV

Imagine Jesus on earth today. Imagine Him walking through our cities and our rural towns. Imagine Him looking over crowds in city centers, in movie theatres, at the beach, at concerts, in a bar, in a country fair.  He looks out over crowds that include people from every walk of life, every background, every race, every religion, every orientation.

Jesus looks over crowds today. He looked over crowds when He walked the earth 2000 years ago.

And when Jesus looked, He was filled with compassion. He felt deeply burdened for the harassed and helpless people who made up the crowd. Look at the crowds around you. They fill to the brim with brothers and sisters who wander through life like sheep without a shepherd: lonely, hungry, hurting, and scared. Does the church of Jesus look over crowds the way He did? Or does the church turn away in disgust?

Our theme for 2016-17 is Awaken. Does the church need to wake up? Do Christians need to see people as Jesus saw them? Do Christian women of all ages need to stop closing our eyes to people different from us?

Jesus’ compassion led Him to seek our prayers – prayers to send workers out – workers who will sow and reap a spiritual harvest of souls.  Pray with us that Christian women in our communities would start to see the spiritual need around them.

Let’s pray that God awakens in the hearts of Christian women of all ages a compassion for the crowds, and a hunger to share the Gospel. Let’s pray that they find Stonecroft (or Stonecroft finds them!) and that they join us in the Big Story to take His Message of love and grace to each woman where she is, as she is.
