Weight was never my issue when I was growing up. As a young girl, I was tall and thin. I loved playing outside and running track. By the time I was 22, I already had four children but still was able to maintain a nice shape. By 2005, at age 23, I weighed more than 250 pounds and loved everything about food except nutrition.

Three years later, I was married with six children and had a full-time career in nursing. I exercised at a local gym, and my husband was a fitness trainer. Even though I would spend 2 1/2 hours in the gym, afterward I would go to a local grocery store for a sandwich and chips. I tried to “out-train a bad diet.” You may have tried to do this, too.

By 2010 my weight had reached 300 pounds. My husband loved me the way I was, but he really wanted us to be the “first family of fitness” – a model for others. So, I agreed to make a change for the kids. Of course, no one wants to be overweight, prediabetic, and facing other issues that result from not eating right.

In 2012 I was introduced to a weight-loss and fitness program called The Challenge. I lost three pounds in three days, 15 pounds in one month, 40 pounds in three months, and 93 pounds in nine months. I was overjoyed by these results and determined to get the weight off, now that I’d gotten the food under control.

I’m happy to say that now, at age 35, I’m lighter by 135 pounds and in the best shape of my life. I’ve participated in three competitions sponsored by natural bodybuilding organizations, winning first place in two and third place in one. But I’m not stopping there!

Today, I’m committed to helping others transform their lives and battle any obstacles they may face on their journey to better health and fitness. If you’re struggling with your weight, trying to out-train a bad diet, or simply wanting to enjoy better health, be encouraged today. Accept the challenge to make some lifestyle changes that lead to better health and fitness.
