Do you struggle to believe God truly loves you – regardless of what you’ve ever done or said? It is difficult for our human minds to grasp this truth. It isn’t just a nice idea or fuzzy feeling that fades over time, that God loves us without condition, it’s truth.

We see this truth reflected in the story of Gomer. Have you heard of her? She is known to us as a prostitute who we read about in the book of Hosea. Hosea was her husband and though Gomer left him, their children and sold herself for money, he found her, fought for her, and bought her back. You see, Hosea didn’t see her as a prostitute. He saw her as his beloved bride, the mother of his children, the one worth fighting for.

In our culture today, to put it nicely, she would’ve been viewed as used goods or even worthless. But because of Hosea’s love for her, he saw who she really was and did everything to get her back.

This is a picture of God and us. This story is a foreshadowing of what was to come: when God sent Jesus to pursue us and do everything to win us back. His love for us goes beyond the physical. It goes beyond the ways we turn from him to do what we want regardless of how it hurts us or others. It goes beyond what our culture says and what we tell ourselves about who we are. We are so loved and sought after by a God who can free us now and forever. This is the message we are to take to the world.

  • Take some time to pray.  Ask God to show you specific areas you aren’t believing the truth that He loves you. Then ask Him to help you believe.
  • Ask God to give you the name of one woman who doesn’t believe she’s worthy to be so loved by Jesus. Pray for her.
  • Pray for an opportunity to love on a neighbor today. When you see someone, ask how you can pray for them.
