On a warm Saturday morning, a corner tea café in Westminster, California, just outside of swarming Los Angeles, opened its doors early for a special morning. As cheery music played and the aroma of matcha tea circled, smiling women gathered one by one for a lighter version of Detox — Find Your Balance.

Months earlier, a small team of young women wanted to bring a Detox event to Southern California. Yet as they looked through their busy schedules, they just didn’t have the time to plan a full-scale event. “What if we did a simple Detox?”

This Simply Detox was a two-hour Saturday morning gathering. The first speaker, Nicole, a college student, shared how identity and awareness relate to health. Twenty minutes later, women visited two stations: a matcha tea sampling while learning the health benefits of tea, and simple stretching and breathing exercises to foster physical health with the guidance of a local dance instructor.

Women came back together for a short talk on spiritual health through the lens of a woman who follows Jesus. They heard how she has found spiritual balance through the Gospel message. At the conclusion, women were encouraged to continue their balanced living journey by signing up for a health-centered community group.

“That was fun!” and “I really enjoyed today” were comments heard around the café. Simply Detox offered the right balance for these women. It was a streamlined planning process while still bringing them together to bond through a common thread that seems to connect all women: finding balance.
