Peace in evangelism? I know what you might be thinking: Peace and evangelism can’t possibly go together! When I think of evangelism, I actually panic a little. My mind starts racing and every possible fear and doubt I have about sharing my faith flood my mind.

It can be hard to imagine that peace comes with sharing your faith. Communicating the Gospel involves telling people that they need a Savior because of their sin. Let’s be real, that can be offensive. But then you get to tell them the Good News of this reality: God sent Jesus to be that Savior and they don’t have to worry about fixing themselves or somehow getting to God on their own. You can actually give them the peace for which so many desperately search.

There are many ways that God brings peace in evangelism. When you live out your life in peace regardless of your circumstances, you will be a testimony of who God is. When you share the Gospel, you can have peace in knowing that God is in control of your hearer’s heart. Finally, you experience the rest that comes from doing what God has asked you to do – to simply invite others into His peace through knowing Jesus Christ, the only One who can truly satisfy.

I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves. Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues. On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles. But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.

– Matthew 10:16-20, NIV

The beginning of this passage can be frightening. But do you hear the promises Jesus gives? The Spirit won’t leave you without His peace or without His words. Do not worry – this is a command from Jesus. Instead, be at peace knowing your Father promises to speak through you. He will draw unbelievers to Himself.

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

– John 14:27
