“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.  Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!  Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.”

 – Psalm 139:13-14, NLT

As I connect with women from different communities, a common theme of self-worth begs attention. Women often express their desire for a “career” to complete their value portfolio. If we tie our self-worth to a college degree and a salary with benefits, we miss who God designed us to be. Maybe your path is to attend college, concluding with a lifelong career through which you can influence peers in the workplace. But maybe it’s not.

God has a unique plan for our lives that requires us to be in communication with Him … praying and reading the Bible. When we choose to ignore the world’s standards and live by God’s standards, we find a whole new meaning to “value.”

In Matthew Chapter 10, Jesus says,

“‘What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows” (vs. 29-31).

For more than 75 years, Stonecroft volunteers have discovered their “value” by leading women in faith conversations, teaching women how to share their faith stories, and praying for women in their community. Ask God to show you where you are most valuable and trust that His “plans are for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
