My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

– John 10:27

A new year. A new day! Time for a reset.

New beginnings never get old. For me, I love the fresh start of a new week, and especially, the redemption of a new year. Feels like we have special dispensation to let go of the previous year and launch into the new. I can forget the old and start new as if the previous months will have no say in the days to come.

Reflect

  • Write down three experiences that stand out as benchmarks for you in 2016. What about these do you want to carry into 2017?
  • Write down two to three choices you wish you had avoided. What is one baby step you can take to move away from repeating these again? Does repentance play a role in this?
  • Write down two or three relationships that changed you. How might you thank these people in a tangible way?

In 2017 we will face new challenges. For some of us, we will welcome new family members through marriage or the birth of a child. For some, we will say long goodbyes to friends transitioning from this earth to their eternal home. Opportunities will present themselves to share the Gospel, pray, or lead a Bible study or small group. How will you be ready to respond?

Respond

  • Ask God to ready your heart for the people, and I will note, women, in whom He wants you to invest.
  • Ask God to heighten your listening skills to the Holy Spirit’s leading and prompting.
  • Tell God your dreams, desires, and struggles. Let Him know that ,in 2017, you desire to discover Him as you proceed with plans to fulfill dreams, submit your heart’s desire to Him, and surrender your weakness.

Here is what I am hearing from God as I start 2017:

Cheryl, remember my benefits. (Psalm 103)

Cheryl, re-calibrate. Set a few areas of your life back to the way I originally designed. Set these areas back to what I say in My Word.

Cheryl, when I speak to you, trust that you are hearing My voice. (Isaiah 30:21)

So, how is God prompting you?

What will the narrative of 2017 look like for you? How are you pausing to listen and ponder on what God is saying to you for this new year, this new season?
