I was walking along the edge of the woods in late spring and noticed a white-tailed doe. Her newborn fawn walked gingerly alongside its mama. It was such a sweet sight. As I circled around on my walk to see if the two deer were still together, I heard a soft mewing sound. I realized it was the fawn crying out for its mother to return as they were separated by a hill many feet away with lots of obstacles like twigs and stones to navigate through.

I was concerned there were predators such as foxes around. My neighbor reassured me that the fawn’s coat is well-suited for hiding in the forest, and it was normal for the doe to go off and forage for food, and then return for the fawn.

The following week, I spotted the pair again as they comfortably waded through the stream. My heart was glad to see this reunion.

Summer is a time of family reunions. Airports seem busier than usual, and it’s not hard to miss those tears of joy when families are no longer separated by great distances. It’s as if time stands still in those moments, even though everyone else is scurrying around. I just love seeing reunions when connections happen on a deep emotional level.

My family is separated east coast to west coast, but when we are all together around the table, my father gets choked up and tells us he could not be happier.

Do you ever wonder how God our Father feels when we reunite with Him to be close to His side and around His table?

Jesus Christ ushered in a family reunion by bringing us back from heartbreaking separation into relationship with God the Father. Though we had strayed, He came to our rescue.

One of the most incredible momentous acts of service that Jesus did for us was going to the cross to pay for our messiness. God provided the way because He loves unconditionally and forgives us.

Do you believe that God wants a deep relationship with you, because He longs for you to be reunited in His family? Everyone is invited to the family reunion, but not everyone will come.

When you receive His Son’s act of love for you, you enter His family, and a great adventure awaits those who follow Christ as He teaches you how to live in His kingdom. Oh, how sweet it is!

“He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn – not with physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.”
