Thoughts are like boomerangs returning to their source. Choose wisely which ones you “throw.”

I work with people who have addictions. Many will say over and over that the addiction is too strong for them to break, that they will never be free from it. Sure enough, they end up being right. What you think about and repeat to yourself can become a prison of sorts.

Walking with God can change that. To walk with God, you need to agree with Him. That involves learning to think as He thinks. The best way to know how and what He thinks is to read the Bible. It lets you in on what God wants to tell you about life and how He created you.

God tells us in the Bible that we are loved, that He gives us our identity, and we are valuable to Him. When we have a case of “mistaken identity” we fail to know our worth as a child of God. We also can end up in an emotional thought-prison of fear, self-hatred, poor self-image, and lack of confidence. Jesus said He came to announce the release of the captives. He can free our minds as well as our hearts.

Reading and doing what the Bible says can renew us and set us free from the prison of our minds. The renewal of our mind requires us to be aware of what we think about, to capture those thoughts, and to turn them around.

Begin this week by thinking about this direction from the Bible:

Be aware of your thoughts. Ask yourself if what you are thinking meets one of these descriptions mentioned in the above Bible verse. If not, turn that thought around. Allow these renewed thoughts to boomerang and see what happens.
