“He prayed, ‘O Lord, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!’” (2 Chronicles 20:6)

“At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him.” (Mark 5:30a, NIV*)

“… That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, …” (Ephesians 1:19-20, NIV*)

“At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.” (Luke 21:27, NIV*)

The power of God was with Jesus here on earth. It is available to us now. He is coming back with that same power.

When we pray, we are accessing the power of our risen Lord and Savior. When I remember this, I pray for more. I pray to see His power in our world today. I pray for hearts to turn to Him. I pray for healing and hope and help. Because He has the power to do more than what we can ask or imagine.

January is famous for a time of renewal and fresh starts. We all know people with brokenness and hurts who need to experience the power of God in their lives. Maybe you need to experience God’s power in your own life. This month, pray to experience His power. He invites us to ask for it, to want it, and to use it for His Kingdom.

As the children of God, our inheritance in His Kingdom is secure and part of that is access to His power.

When you enter into prayer asking for God’s power, first read this from Job:

Job 38:4-18 (NIV)

4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?

    Tell me, if you understand.

5 Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!

Who stretched a measuring line across it?

6 On what were its footings set,

    or who laid its cornerstone—

7 while the morning stars sang together

and all the angels shouted for joy?

8 “Who shut up the sea behind doors

when it burst forth from the womb,

9 when I made the clouds its garment

and wrapped it in thick darkness,

10 when I fixed limits for it

and set its doors and bars in place,

11 when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther;

here is where your proud waves halt’?

12 “Have you ever given orders to the morning,

or shown the dawn its place,

13 that it might take the earth by the edges

and shake the wicked out of it?

14 The earth takes shape like clay under a seal;

its features stand out like those of a garment.

15 The wicked are denied their light,

and their upraised arm is broken.

16 “Have you journeyed to the springs of the sea

or walked in the recesses of the deep?

17 Have the gates of death been shown to you?

Have you seen the gates of the deepest darkness?

18 Have you comprehended the vast expanses of the earth?

Tell me, if you know all this.

Who did? God did. In His power.
