TORNADO RELIEF

Parkersburg, Iowa - When Stonecroft volunteer JoAnne Boche was asked to mark her calendar for a speaking engagement in mid-July at the Parkersburg connection group, she agreed without hesitation. JoAnne is blessed by each God-given opportunity to build new relationships outside her Minnesota community.

At that time, she never could have imagined how much her new-found friends would need her help in their own community in the days to come. At the end of May, a devastating tornado ripped through the small Iowa town of Parkersburg. Hundreds lost their homes, including a Stonecroft Prayer Coordinator, and six lost their lives. Literally half the town lay in ruins in the wake of this tragedy.

When JoAnne heard the news, she felt compelled to reach out. With the support of Stonecroft friends in and around Minnesota's Twin Cities, she collected clothing and financial contributions. She used the money to purchase cleaning and hygiene supplies for those trying to pick-up the pieces. With her car filled to the brim, she set off for Parkersburg ready to lend a helping hand on behalf of Stonecroft Ministries.

JoAnne worked with Red Cross supervisors to organize and distribute donations. As they dropped off water and supplies, she was given a tour of the areas hardest hit by the tornado.

"I saw first-hand the devastation that community is facing. There were people sifting through grass and debris, searching for mementoes to rescue," JoAnne said.

After such a heart-wrenching experience, JoAnne is set on returning to Parkersburg in July as originally planned. In addition to speaking to the connection group, she will deliver another carload of donations-this time in the form of school supplies. "I'm still going to speak to them even though they hardly have one building standing. God will provide a place! The most exciting thing is they aren't giving up. The relationship we share motivates them to move forward," said JoAnne.
