Print Article  To Inspire You "She Did What She Could"LISA HEIDRICH Mid-South Divisional Field Director Can we imagine taking every cent owned—over a year’s worth of wages—and offering them all at once for Jesus? Would we do it? Could we do it? Are we brave enough, do we have enough faith for that? I have to wonder what was going through the head and heart of the woman in Bethany who did just that. Did she even realize her act of humility and unselfish love would be recorded in history and shared every time the Gospel would be spoken or taught for the next 2,000 years? Just embrace this thought: no act of love done for Christ goes unnoticed. Mark 14:8-9 records Jesus saying, “She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her." WOW! Now, granted, we all mess up, make mistakes, and have many sins—but could we love beyond all our hindrances? Will our love be reflected in our actions for Jesus? We all contemplate what we can do for the Lord. Which of our actions might be remembered 10 minutes from now? Sometimes our love is mirrored in the little things, like the prayers said with a friend, or a meal brought to the sick, or a tithe given to a struggling new church. Often we think too much and get caught up in the “what if’s” of our actions—so we don't do anything. I savor this example of the woman in Bethany because she acted—she LOVED generously—didn’t wait, ponder, discuss her actions, or mull over them. She did what she could on the spot for her Savior. I desire to act in love and never want to take the Lord for granted. I want to be remembered as a woman who did what she could!
