A Vision for Prayer
On and on it went until we had twenty-four groups of people meeting for prayer each week. We were praying for an avenue through which we could tell people about God, and His love and concern for them.
—Helen Duff Baugh on p. 37 of The Story Goes On
Mrs. Baugh had no idea how God planned to answer this prayer the following year, how He would start a worldwide movement of evangelism on the heels of those faithful prayers.
But He did!
God revealed a new avenue through which hundreds of thousands of Stonecroft volunteers have introduced their families, friends, neighbors, and coworkers to Jesus. And that avenue still takes the Gospel to thousands of your peers each year!
The changes in YOUR lives reveal the fruit of those first 24 prayer groups as well!
Now Jesus has called us to prayer once more, not for a single avenue, but for many avenues by which to reach our diverse culture, by which younger volunteers will join us to deliver the Gospel to their families, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Today more than 900 women gather in 160 Stonecroft Prays! Half of those who pray have volunteered for years with Stonecroft. Half are younger women new to Stonecroft. Together they ask God to reveal new avenues of Gospel outreach to women in their communities.
God moves when He decides to move and He has started to move! He has answered the prayers of several Prays! gatherings. The women have started to plan various outreaches to younger and diverse women in their communities.
I have a dream that one day thousands of multigenerational, multiethnic gatherings of women will pray for new avenues by which to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and, as God answers, lives and communities will transform.
We have a dream that next fall dozens of multigenerational, multiethnic gatherings of women will walk around their communities to pray for those they pass and for new avenues by which to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, thereby meeting the greatest need of women where they are, as they are.
And this dream is on its way to reality! We anticipate that many Stonecroft Prays! women will gather on Saturday, September 27 for the first annual Community Prays! Walk. They will walk around their community and pray for its needs, especially its greatest need, that people will be reconciled to the God of the Universe. Prays! women will seek God’s direction about how best to share the Good News of the Cross with women they pass. And God will answer.
We also anticipate that new Stonecroft Prays! gatherings will begin on this date and that many younger, diverse women will join this Walk—and eventually participate in our ministry of reconciliation, sharing the Gospel with their family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
I look forward with great anticipation to our efforts this fall and to see how God answers our prayers!
