Compelled to Share
By Kathy White
Upper Midwest Divisional Field Director
I recently read that we should live our lives “saturated in the Gospel.” If you and I could live this way, it would surely transform both our view of the Gospel and our desire to communicate it. So how can you and I live immersed in the Gospel in order to share the Gospel?
The Gospel has to saturate me. Am I constantly aware of what God has done and is doing for me—for eternity and right now? Do I even realize what I have been spared because of His grace in my life? “There but for the grace of God go I” is such a powerful truth as we see the struggles, sin, and despair around us. The Bible says that those who have been forgiven much, love much. Does my heart overflow with gratitude for how the Gospel has spared me and continues to shape me?
The Gospel needs to permeate my life. Do I live in gratitude for His presence in my life, all the time? I watch my husband, Tim, live in the Gospel as health issues curtail much of his activity and energy. What keeps him stable, emotionally and spiritually, is believing God is in it all. Tim and I may not understand the big picture yet, but we know as He “redeems” the pain, it becomes part of the Gospel in our lives. Is the Gospel the lens through which I see that God has saved me for THIS: this place, this circumstance, and these opportunities to grow and share Him?
The Gospel must shape how I view everyone. Do I really see the need for the Gospel in those around me? I often believe the veneer of success or satisfaction, but miss the heart cry. I forget that all people without Jesus Christ have that God-shaped void in their lives, regardless of how they appear on the surface. Only by stepping into relationship with them can I catch glimpses of their quiet hopelessness, of the person God designed each of them to be, and feel sorrow for their future without Him. Am I willing to share what I have so graciously been given?
Jesus, may our overwhelming gratitude, recognizing all you have done for us, increase our compassion for all we see and compel us to share your Good News!
“Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.” —I Peter 3:15-16, NLT
