A Letter To You From Zimbabwe, Africa-From Stonecroft Ministries/Southern Africa's Trustee for Zimbabwe, Moreen Zimbudzana:

Greetings in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I hope this letter finds you well, blessed, and loved.

In Africa, we are moving into the heat of summer and waiting for the rains patiently, as they are seasonal, and we depend on what we receive for dams and reservoirs until the next season. This time of the year is really beautiful, with long summer days which get us into doing a lot of outdoor activities, lots of braais (barbecues), and outdoor lazy cooking.

Most factories are preparing for the long six-week break where workers will be seen migrating to their rural homes, with lots of contract workers going to their neighbouring countries like Zimbabwe and Zambia. Some go as far as Mozambique and the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo). It is interesting to see the jovial mood of the people as they do their shopping in bits, until the final time they take the goodies home. One just can't help thinking where the relationship is between all these people and Christ in the middle of all this hustle and bustle.

"Cry the beloved souls; how do we reach them with the good news?"

Most outreach programmes are winding up for the December holidays. We are having our last couple of fundraising activities through Christmas Fairs. The ladies in the Cape will be presenting Christmas programmes in a number of Old Age complexes over the same period and we want to rejoice in the Lord for His Grace, which is all-sufficient. Since our Stonecroft year moved from August to December, this is the time when the planning team members prepare to change responsibilities and all of us are praying for new members for those teams. Help us pray so that the Lord shows us those women who we should ask to join these teams.

In Zimbabwe, we thank God for a year where the perseverance of volunteers is bearing fruit. The Lord is faithful, and through the hardships of the past years, the work has flourished and we are anticipating further growth. These are exciting times, thanks for praying with us. The political situation is not yet stable, but Jesus is our rock. In South Africa, the 2010 soccer games are two hundred days away, and we, as a ministry, are as involved as we are able in the outreach to the thousands of visitors who will come here. Pray for momentum of Ministry to soon be regained toward the end of January, when the school year begins and Bible studies and outreaches resume.

God bless you, and enjoy His Life in its abundance.

All my love,

Moreen Zimbudzana

Stonecroft Work in This Country:

Stonecroft Ministries, Southern Africa

Stonecroft Ministries in Southern Africa includes South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Swaziland. A Board of Trustees, all volunteers, is responsible for running the Ministry.

We currently have 15 active Outreach Connections in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Stonecroft Bible Studies are held in Swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and all but one of the nine Provinces in South Africa.

During the soccer World Cup tournament being held in South Africa in June and July 2010, we are urging our women to look for opportunities to support our churches in their outreach events. The schools are all on a break for the entire event and churches are holding soccer clinics for the children. This is all assisted by an organization called The Ultimate Goal (TUG). There are recorded testimonies from soccer stars and a whole programme of evangelical teaching, together with soccer games.

Churches are also holding viewing parties of the games and inviting people from the local community to come together to watch. Again, TUG has supplied churches with DVD's of testimonies from Christian soccer players. These are very much cross-cultural initiatives. We have had the Would You Believe It? Stonecroft Life Publication translated into three of the major languages of South Africa and are offering them to the churches to use at these events.

We are praying for all the evangelical initiatives that are being held. We are suggesting that Grannies who are looking after their grandchildren during this time will use the God's Family and Me booklet as a resource.

If you want to know more, please contact our office — we would love to hear from you.

National Historic Profile Information:
(This information courtesy of worldmap.org)

The UK annexed Southern Rhodesia from the South Africa Company in 1923. A 1961 constitution was formulated that favored whites in power. In 1965 the government unilaterally declared its independence, but the UK did not recognize the act and demanded more complete voting rights for the black African majority in the country (then called Rhodesia). UN sanctions and a guerrilla uprising finally led to free elections in 1979 and independence (as Zimbabwe) in 1980. Robert MUGABE, the nation's first prime minister, has been the country's only ruler (as president since 1987) and has dominated the country's political system since independence. His chaotic land redistribution campaign begun in 2000 caused an exodus of white farmers, crippled the economy, and ushered in widespread shortages of basic commodities. Ignoring international condemnation, MUGABE rigged the 2002 presidential election to ensure his reelection. Opposition and labor groups launched general strikes in 2003 to pressure MUGABE to retire early; security forces continued their brutal repression of regime opponents.
